Tips and Tricks for great Head Shot photos
When photographing head shot photos for clients they often ask me ‘do you have any tips to get the best photos?’
Here’s a couple of things I suggest:
Wear something you feel comfortable in. Try to avoid bold patterns or stripes and wear a colour that works well with you. If you have something in your wardrobe that people always compliment you on, then wear that!
Have you bought something recently that you think will work with the look you are trying to achieve, then bring that too. If you want to, bring a choice of outfits and we can choose on the day.
Bring something that is suitable for you and your business. If you wouldn’t wear a party dress to work, then that is not suitable. Whatever you wear, it should reflect the style of photo you are going for whether it be corporate or casual.
When you do your hair and make-up, please do it in a natural way keeping it light and fresh and bring some make-up along such as lipstick for touch-ups. Given the close-up nature of head shot photography, it’s important to make sure make-up is blended well and works well with your skin tones. You may also like to bring a light powder to reduce shiny spots on your face due to the studio lighting I use. It can sometimes get a little warm especially in summer.
Avoid big chunky jewellery (unless this is what you sell) as sometimes it can take over the shot. The photo should be all about YOU!
Prepare for the photoshoot by having your hair cut/groomed. This also includes facial hair as well. So many people say to me ‘I really should have got my hair cut before having my photo taken.’
Bring a brush, comb and any other personal grooming products with you in case you need them before the shoot.
